With proximity to some of Portugal’s most well-known golf courses such as Vale do Lobo, Quinta do Lago and Vilamoura, and with the entire range of courses in the western Algarve within easy reach by car, it is an ideal base for those looking to combine playing on top-class courses with accommodation beyond the ordinary.

The accommodation is housed in a former 19th-century farmhouse, which has been carefully transformed into a family-owned oasis by Isabel Vilela since 1990. The whitewashed architecture, cobblestone walkways and flowering courtyards give the place a unique soul – here it feels more like staying at the home of good friends than in a traditional holiday home.

You stay in one of 20 individually decorated apartments – each with its own character. The area has three different pools, of which a particularly secluded “quiet pool” is perfect for those who want to swim undisturbed or just relax with a book. During the winter months, one of the pools is heated. The garden is green and lush, with plenty of common areas for both socializing and tranquility.

At Quinta dos Amigos there is also a very good restaurant with local flavors, a coffee corner, a mini market and access to massage, yoga and other relaxing activities. Guests particularly appreciate the personal atmosphere, and it is not uncommon to leave a book in the small book corner – as a greeting to the next visitor. Many guests return here, year after year.

For golf enthusiasts, the location is hard to beat. Vale do Lobo is just 2.2 km away – less than 10 minutes by car – and within a radius of 5-6 km you will find both Quinta do Lago and Vila Sol. If you want to play on more courses in our Western Algarve package, it is also easy – you can reach Gramacho, Salgados, Silves, Alamos and Amendoeira Faldo & O’Connor in between 20 and 35 minutes by car.

But the location has more to offer than golf. Almancil is right in the heart of the Algarve – with fine golf courses to the east, and beaches, fishing ports, small villages and local restaurants to the west. Faro airport is only about 20 minutes away. Almancil itself is a lively town all year round, not just a tourist resort. Here you will find a wide range of shops, local markets and several of the Algarve’s most appreciated restaurants – including three with Michelin stars. And just 10 minutes away by car is Quarteira, a popular resort with a relaxed and authentic feel. The long promenade is lined with cafes, restaurants and shops, and stretches along a wide sandy beach. Here you will find colorful markets, traditional fish restaurants and a steady dose of everyday life – especially around Largo do Mercado – the town’s bustling market hall with fresh fish, fruit, vegetables and flowers – all locally produced and caught. The market is open every morning, and it is at its liveliest early in the day when vendors call out the catch of the day and customers flock to buy the best for the dinner table. On Wednesdays, the area is transformed into a colorful open-air market with stalls selling everything from clothes and crafts to Portuguese delicacies and souvenirs. It is the perfect place to experience everyday life in the Algarve in real life – genuine, homely and full of smells, tastes and conversations.
