Albur Village, Alvor
Charming village accommodation in Alvor!
Welcoming accommodation in the restaurant village of Alvor!
Albur Village is perfectly positioned in Alvor, about a ten-minute walk from the small square and the two main streets. Around the square and in the narrow alleyways you'll find a wonderful selection of cafés, bars and restaurants – many open year-round. Here locals and visitors mingle in a way that gives the village its warm, vibrant atmosphere.
The resort itself is small and inviting, completely renovated in 2020, both inside and out, to a high standard. The apartments are bright, fresh and well-equipped for a Longstay, with fast WiFi, international TV channels and a good kitchen for self-catering. There are apartments with one or two bedrooms, plus some new, beautifully appointed townhouse apartments with two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The resort also offers a pool and comfortable communal areas for relaxation and socialising.
Alvor has a long history – the town was founded in 436 AD as Portus Hannibalis. Today it's a well-known and much-loved fishing village with a gentle pace, where life centres around the small-boat harbour, the charming square and winding alleyways. Along the quay you'll find fish restaurants serving the day's catch, and in the harbour area you can watch the fishing boats come in during the afternoon.
If you love nature and walking, the area around Alvor is perfect. Alvor Boardwalk is a long wooden walkway that winds through the sand dunes and nature reserve at Ria de Alvor – a paradise for birdwatchers and anyone wanting to enjoy the sea breeze. Praia de Alvor beach stretches for several kilometres with fine sand and plenty of space, even during high season.
The location also makes it easy to visit nearby towns. A ten-minute drive will take you to lively Portimão with its shopping, markets and marina at Praia da Rocha. As a golfer, you have several fine golf courses nearby, including Penina, Àlamos and Morgado.
Albur Village is, in other words, accommodation that combines the convenience of a modern apartment with the charm of a historic Portuguese village – perfect if you want both peace and quiet and easy access to everything that makes the Algarve special.
For golf, the location is excellent – the classic Penina is just a 10-minute drive from the accommodation, and you can reach the very pleasant sister courses Àlamos and Morgado in about 25 minutes. West Algarve
We consider West Algarve to extend from Albufeira and westwards. This was where Portuguese explorers set sail in the 15th century on their voyages of discovery around the world. The landscape features mountains inland, rolling cliffs to the west and flatter coastline to the east. In the cities of Silves and Lagos, you can feel history's presence and see preserved traces of the Moorish past and the age of exploration. Algarve's least developed area is the north-western corner with its protected nature reserves, untouched beaches, wild coastlines and dramatic cliffs. Here you'll find Europe's most south-westerly point, Cabo de São Vicente, where the mighty Atlantic makes an awe-inspiring impression.
The hub is Alvor and Portimão with their long beaches and genuine fishing harbours. From here you can reach everything from championship golf courses to the cliff drama of Ponta da Piedade, and in the evening you can enjoy cataplana in the harbour quarters or watch the sunset from Lagos' ancient walls. In winter you'll often have both the golf courses and beaches almost to yourself – and prices are at their best.
