Pelican Alvor

Welcome to one of the Algarve's finest resorts!
Welcome to Alvor – a picturesque and vibrant coastal village where Portuguese small-town charm meets proximity to both nature and golf. Here you'll stay at Pelican Resort, a newly renovated and welcoming accommodation with high standards, located in a peaceful area with virtually no through-traffic. Alvor's centre with its charming square, cosy alleyways and lively main street is just a 10–15 minute stroll away. The local area is dotted with cafés and restaurants open year-round, where locals and visitors mingle in a relaxed and genuine atmosphere.
Pelican Resort offers bright and well-equipped apartments with one or two bedrooms, fast Wi-Fi, international TV channels and fully equipped kitchens. All apartments have undergone extensive renovation, both inside and out. The grounds feature a lovely outdoor pool and communal areas for socialising and relaxation. Parking is available outside the 24-hour staffed reception.
The apartments don't have their own washing machine, but we have an arrangement with a local laundry service – you drop off your washing and collect it ready after one to two days. A convenient and much-appreciated solution!
One of Alvor's highlights is the harbour with its many fish restaurants where the day's catch is prepared fresh from the boats. The waterfront promenade along the sea is perfect for sunset evening walks or an early-morning jog with views over the Atlantic – balm for both body and soul.
Alvor's history stretches far back in time – the town was founded in 436 under the name Portus Hannibalis. Today it's a peaceful and charming village with small-scale local life, where the pace is pleasantly slow. On the square you can still see locals sitting with their 'bica' (espresso) and savouring the day.
From Pelican Alvor, you're also close to several of the Algarve's finest golf courses. Classics like Penina are just ten minutes away, whilst Alamos and Morgado, where the European Tour has played, are within about 25 minutes. Silves Golf, a technically challenging and beautiful course, is half an hour away. And if you want to play with the sea in view, Palmares Golf Club near Lagos is a must – here you'll find both superb quality and magnificent views from the clubhouse.

West Algarve
We consider West Algarve to extend from Albufeira and westwards. This was where Portuguese explorers set sail in the 15th century on their voyages of discovery around the world. The landscape features mountains inland, rolling cliffs to the west and flatter coastline to the east. In the cities of Silves and Lagos, you can feel history's presence and see preserved traces of the Moorish past and the age of exploration. Algarve's least developed area is the north-western corner with its protected nature reserves, untouched beaches, wild coastlines and dramatic cliffs. Here you'll find Europe's most south-westerly point, Cabo de São Vicente, where the mighty Atlantic makes an awe-inspiring impression.
The hub is Alvor and Portimão with their long beaches and genuine fishing harbours. From here you can reach everything from championship golf courses to the cliff drama of Ponta da Piedade, and in the evening you can enjoy cataplana in the harbour quarters or watch the sunset from Lagos' ancient walls. In winter you'll often have both the golf courses and beaches almost to yourself – and prices are at their best.
