Until recently, Cabanas has been a relatively quiet and peaceful place where local fishermen were the most notable residents. In recent years, Cabanas has increasingly become known as one of the most genuine and picturesque places in eastern Algarve.
There are many and varied attractions in the area. Wander around historic Tavira, explore the quiet backroads through rolling hills just a few kilometres from the coast. Many of our guests visit the border town of Vila Real de Santo António with its Spanish twin town Ayamonte, just a short boat trip across the river. Or spend an evening in Monte Gordo and finish by trying your luck at the town's casino.
Don't miss a boat trip up the Guadiana border river either – a river boat departs from Vila Real, or drive along the winding country road to the fantastic village of Alcoutim on the Portuguese side.
From Cabanas, you have 'everything on your doorstep'. Charming, historic Tavira is just a short 10-minute drive away, and Spain is about half an hour away. The coastline eastwards from Cabanas towards the Spanish border is a long stretch of fantastic sandy beaches, all easily accessible by car via the coastal N-125 road. The A22 motorway – Via de Infante – is easily reached via Tavira or Monte Gordo for travel along the Algarve coast and into Spain.
In Cabanas, you really do have golf just around the corner. To your 'home club' Benamor – where we have daily tee times, weekly competitions and excellent socialising at the 19th – it's just 5 minutes. The fantastic twin courses Quinta da Ria and Quinta de Cima are 10 minutes away. Within half an hour you can also reach the challenging gem Quinta do Vale and the rolling, naturally beautiful Castro Marim near the border. Across the bridge over the Guadiana border river are our Spanish courses Isla Canela Old Course, Isla Canela Links, El Rompido and more – all within an hour's drive from Cabanas.
With us, you have the market's by far broadest and best golf packages with quality golf courses for all ability levels and preferences. Long and challenging or shorter and more technical. Flat and easy-going or undulating and breathtaking. Play just one or a few courses, or try a new course 'every day'. The possibilities are almost endless!

East Algarve
East Algarve, from Faro to the Spanish border, is the stretch of coast that has retained most of its original character. Tavira is one of Portugal's most beautiful small towns, with its churches, Roman bridge and excellent range of restaurants. Beyond lies Ria Formosa, a lagoon landscape with islands and long sandy beaches reached by small ferries. Golf is played on courses such as Benamor, Quinta da Ria, Quinta de Cima, Castro Marim and Monte Rei.
You'll find life quieter here than in the west: Cabanas and Tavira's island beaches are reached by small ferries, the market hall displays the day's catch, and evenings are peaceful. Monte Rei – often ranked as Portugal's finest course – is the highlight for many visitors, and if you fancy a change of scenery, Spanish Ayamonte is just a short drive away across the Guadiana bridge. Winter is mild and tranquil, with empty beaches and plenty of tee times.
