In the Lisbon area you stay close to the city but play on peaceful courses in the southern region, and Christer makes sure you get the best of both. Christer greet you on arrival, help with tee times, the guest portal and gather guests for competitions and dinners. If you'd like tips on a tram ride through Lisbon or the best fish restaurant, just ask.

About Lisbon

On the southern bank of the Tagus, ten minutes by ferry from Lisbon's old town, lies Seixal – a small harbour town with a life of its own. The promenade follows the river past the tidal mills and fishing boats, the cafés are filled with locals sipping their bica in the sun, and at evening, the view is the city itself: Lisbon's lights on the far side of the water and the 25 April Bridge in profile. You'll stay among the Portuguese rather than tourists, with a bakery, market and restaurants within walking distance and the ferry like a commuter service into the capital.

Further east, where the river widens into an inland sea, lie Alcochete and Praia do Sal. The name comes from the salt ponds that surround the village – today a bird reserve where flamingos stand in the shallow water a few hundred metres from your apartment. Alcochete is an old salt and bullfighting village with whitewashed houses, a long shallow river beach and a tranquillity that makes you forget Lisbon is just half an hour away across the Vasco da Gama Bridge, Europe's longest.

The golf courses lie in the pine forests south of the river, classic and peaceful, all within half an hour of both accommodations. On your day off, take the ferry or bridge into the city: tram 28 through Alfama, pastéis de nata in Belém and the views from São Jorge Castle. Cascais seafront and Sintra's palace are an hour's outing, but most of our guests find that the river, the fish and the rhythm of life on the southern shore are quite enough. Winter brings clear, mild days that suit a round of golf just as well as a city walk.

The golf package · 6 golf courses

You choose your own courses and distribute your rounds as you wish.

How to play

All 6 golf courses are included in the Lisbon golf packages – you choose which ones you play and distribute your rounds as you wish, in Light, Medium or Large. PT Golf has pre-booked tee times on all golf courses; you book them yourself in the guest portal from 60 days before arrival. During the season, our golf hosts arrange several competitions a week and social golf for those who'd like to play with new friends.

The golf courses

Six peaceful courses south of Lisbon: Aroeira Pines and Challenge in the pine forest, Quinta do Peru with views towards Arrábida, Montado among vineyards, the underrated Santo Estêvão – and Troia, links in the sand dunes with the Atlantic on one side and the Sado river on the other. The wind is free.

Why Portugal

Portugal is the natural home of golf travel. Along the Algarve coast, golf courses are plentiful – parkland courses among pine and cork trees, clifftop courses with the Atlantic in view, and championship layouts designed by Faldo, Trent Jones and Cotton. Add charming towns like Lagos, Tavira and Carvoeiro, fresh fish straight from the boat, and a winter climate that feels like a Swedish early summer.

With PT Golf, you choose the area – not the course. Our golf package Golf gives you 10, 15 or 20 rounds to distribute freely among the region's courses, and you book your own tee times in the guest portal up to eight weeks before arrival. Shortstay (14 days, rental car included) or Longstay (30 days and more) – you stay in selected self-catering apartments that feel like home away from home.

  • Golf Destination of the Year

Algarve has been named the world's finest golf destination by IAGTO – several times over.

  • Winter with 17–19°C

Mild winters, dry fairways and over 300 days of sunshine a year. Play in your jumper whilst Sweden has snow.

  • 42 golf courses within 15 miles

From Sir Henry Cotton's Penina in 1966 to the modern Monte Rei – all abilities and tastes catered for.

  • Golf host on site

Our golf hosts greet you with vouchers, arrange competitions and help with tee times.

The golf courses – variety every day

In Western Algarve, you can choose from 16 golf courses from Santo António at the Atlantic cliffs to Vila Sol in Vilamoura. Central Algarve is championship territory with the Dom Pedro courses and Quinta do Lago. In Eastern Algarve, you play in a more relaxed setting, on Benamor, Quinta da Ria and Monte Rei – Portugal's highest-ranked course. Around Lisbon, you'll find the classic Estoril GC and the links-style Aroeira.

All courses in the package have reserved blocks of tee times for PT Golf guests – which means we can promise you golf even during peak season.

Life between the rounds

Portugal is the place where you eat lunch on the beach in February. Grilled sardines in Portimão, cataplana in Alvor, oysters from Ria Formosa and a glass of Vinho Verde as the sun sets. Markets, beach promenades, boat trips to the caves at Ponta da Piedade and day trips to Seville or Lisbon – you can do it all on a Longstay.

How a golf break with PT Golf works
  • Choose your area and accommodation – apartment or house with kitchen, selected for longer stays.
  • Choose your golf package – Light (10), Medium (15) or Large (20) rounds of golf, freely distributed across courses in the area.
  • Book your tee times in the guest portal – up to 10 rounds before arrival, the rest on-site: "play one, book one".
  • You arrange your own flights – we're flexible with check-in and check-out. Rental car is included in Shortstay and optional in Longstay.
  • Community – competitions, golf hosts and other Swedish golfers in the area if you'd like.
