With proximity to some of Portugal's most renowned golf courses such as Vale do Lobo, Quinta do Lago and Vilamoura, and with the entire western Algarve's course offering within reach by car, it's an ideal base if you want to combine play on world-class courses with accommodation that's truly special.

The accommodation is housed in a former 18th-century farmhouse, which has been carefully transformed into a family-owned oasis by Isabel Vilela since 1990. The whitewashed architecture, cobbled pathways and flowering courtyards give the place a unique soul – here it feels more like staying at the home of good friends than at a traditional holiday rental.

You'll stay in one of 20 individually decorated apartments – each with its own character. The grounds feature three different pools, including one particularly secluded "quiet pool" perfect if you want to swim undisturbed or simply unwind with a book. During the winter months, one of the pools is heated. The garden is green and lush, with plenty of communal areas for both socialising and quiet moments.

Quinta dos Amigos also has an excellent restaurant serving local flavours, a coffee corner, a small shop and access to massage, yoga and other relaxing activities. Guests particularly appreciate the personal atmosphere, and it's not uncommon for people to leave a book in the little book corner – as a greeting to the next visitor. Many guests return here, year after year.

For the golf enthusiast, the location is hard to beat. Vale do Lobo is just 2.2 km away – less than 10 minutes by car – and within a 5–6 km radius you'll find both Quinta do Lago and Vila Sol. If you want to play more courses in our western Algarve package, it's also straightforward – you can reach Gramacho, Salgados, Silves, Alamos and Amendoeira Faldo & O'Connor in between 20 and 35 minutes by car.

But the location offers more than golf. Almancil sits right in the heart of Algarve – with fine golf courses to the east, and to the west await beaches, fishing harbours, small villages and local restaurants. Faro airport is just about 20 minutes away. Almancil itself is a vibrant place year-round, not just a tourist destination. There's a rich selection of shops, local markets and several of Algarve's most acclaimed restaurants – including three with Michelin stars. And just 10 minutes away by car lies Quarteira, a popular resort with a relaxed and genuine feel. The long beach promenade is lined with cafés, restaurants and shops, and stretches along a wide sandy beach. You'll find colourful markets, traditional fish restaurants and a steady dose of everyday life – particularly around Largo do Mercado – the town's lively market hall with fresh fish, fruit, vegetables and flowers – all locally sourced and caught. The market is open every morning, and it's most vibrant early in the day when the vendors call out the day's catch and customers crowd in to buy the best for their supper table. On Wednesdays the area transforms into a colourful outdoor market with stalls selling everything from clothes and crafts to Portuguese delicacies and souvenirs. It's a perfect place to experience authentic Algarve everyday life – genuine, unpretentious and full of aromas, flavours and conversation.

Our competitions in the area are played at Vila Sol & Pinheiros, and entry is made easily via Guestportal. You can book up to 10 rounds from home (both regular play and competitions). Other rounds are booked on site on a play-one-book-one basis, which gives flexibility and the opportunity to play with both new and old golf friends.
