Convento das Bernardas is a unique accommodation in a former Cistercian monastery from 1509, beautifully located next to Tavira's well-known market hall and within easy walking distance of the city's historic center. Here you live close to restaurants, cafes, shops and attractions - but still in peace and quiet.
The former monastery was active until 1834, when religious orders were dissolved in Portugal. After that, the building was used as a factory before falling into disrepair. Under the leadership of award-winning Portuguese architect Eduardo Souto de Moura, the monastery underwent a careful and attentive restoration that was completed in 2012. The result is a stylish residential complex with 78 apartments, where historical charm meets modern functionality.
Our apartments in Tavira Convento – a very limited number – are of a high standard and are located in the classic part of the building surrounding the pool area. All have two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a large living room, a fully equipped kitchen, good Wi-Fi and international TV channels. The apartments are on two floors (either two or three floors). Private parking is available inside the courtyard.
The Convento area offers two saltwater pools, beautiful courtyards and a harmonious environment. Right outside the door are the Tavira salt flats – a living cultural landscape where traditional salt harvesting still takes place. The area is also a paradise for birdwatchers, with flamingos and other wading birds in the shallow waters.

In Tavira, golf really is just around the corner. The ‘home club’ Benamor – where we have daily tee times, weekly competitions and wonderful socialising on the 19th – is only 10 minutes away. The fantastic twin courses Quinta da Ría and Quinta da Cima can be reached in another 5 minutes. Within half an hour you can also be at the challenging gem Quinta do Vale and the undulating scenic Castro Marim near the border. On the other side of the bridge over the border river Guadiana are our Spanish courses Isla Canela Old Course, Isla Canela Links, El Rompido and more – all within an hour’s drive of Cabanas.
With us you have by far the widest and best golf package on the market with high-quality golf courses for all playing levels and tastes. Long and tough or shorter and more technical. Flat and walkable or hilly and breathtaking. Play on just one or a few courses, or try a new course “every day”. The possibilities are almost endless!
Bookings for your own game are primarily made via our Guest Portal (or app), where a basic selection of tee times is reserved for our guests. It is also possible to book times via email, telephone or directly on site at the courses. Registration for our competitions is always made via the Guest Portal or app. You can book up to 10 rounds – both your own game and competitions – before arrival, while the remaining rounds are booked on site according to the principle of “play one, book one”. The Guest Portal is shared by all our guests in the area, which provides the opportunity for varied games and pleasant fellowship with both new and well-known golf friends.
