Espiche Golf in western Algarve is already a favourite with many of our guests – not least for its natural setting and relaxed atmosphere. Now a series of exciting improvements are underway that will enhance the experience further, both on the course and at the table.
A Better Playing Experience – A Course for the Future
During summer 2025, Espiche is undergoing an ambitious upgrade programme. The focus is on improving playability, accessibility and sustainability on the course:
- New turf is being laid, primarily around the tees and fairway edges, to create a more consistent playing experience throughout the year.
- An advanced new irrigation system from Rain Bird is being installed. It provides better control, reduces water and energy consumption, and keeps the grass in top condition year-round.
- Buggy paths are being extended across several sections to improve accessibility and flow between holes – whilst protecting the course from unnecessary wear and tear.
- Several new electric buggies are being introduced in July 2025 as part of a wider fleet renewal.
- A completely new section with practice bays has been added to the driving range – plenty of space to fine-tune your game!
Overall, these are changes that benefit both you as a guest and the natural environment. The course will remain open during the work, though some holes may be temporarily affected by maintenance.
New Chef at Gecko – Flavours from Sea and Land
As if that weren't enough, the Gecko restaurant has also welcomed a new addition to the kitchen: Elisabete Oliveira. Born and raised in Lagos, she has brought both passion and experience to the clubhouse at Espiche. Here, Elisabete wants to create a more personal dining experience, where each dish tells a story about the place. Ingredients come largely from local producers within 30 kilometres, and fresh fish from the Algarve coast is prepared with care to let the flavours speak for themselves. Settle in on the terrace after your round – or simply to enjoy a delicious moment in the sun – and let Elisabete guide you through the tastes of the Algarve.
Whether you're playing or simply want to enjoy the view from the clubhouse terrace, Gecko is well worth a visit.
We look forward to following the developments – and to soon teeing off on a course that has become even better.
