When you think of golf in eastern Algarve, Quinta de Cima is always on the list. The course is known as the more challenging sister course to Quinta da Ria – it has undergon a recovery and transformation. All images are from February 2026.
New greens that elevate the playing experience.
The old greens from 2001 have been replaced with brand new bentgrass greens. After a summer of rest, they are now immaculate – fast, level and perfect. It's almost worth playing Cima just for the greens. There's nothing to blame here if you miss; every blade of grass lies exactly where it should, like a green ballroom floor.
Fairways and rough – strong recovery.
Cima still bears the marks of the major work carried out in spring, when the fairways were scalped to make way for new life. In May, the ground lay brown and scarred, like a wound in the landscape. Now, after the summer, we can see how the course is slowly healing. Fairways are patchy, in places a mix of sand and new grass matting. Some areas look fine, many others less appealing – but everything is playable. The rough is recovering, and certain areas are marked as MUA.
Bunkers and tee areas in top condition
All bunkers have received a thorough makeover and are in better shape than ever. The tee areas are firm, level and green – a perfect start to every hole.
What can you expect going forward?
Cima is a course on its way back – but it's not quite there yet. The green recovery is happening step by step, and there's something rather touching about following this journey. Right now, the course may not be worth its full price, but we hope to work out a special offer whilst Cima is not in the complete condition it should be.
