Quinta do Vale Steps Up – Golf Joy and Big News in Eastern Algarve

Apr 15, 2026

In eastern Algarve, where Portugal almost becomes Spain, lies one of our most memorable golf courses – Quinta do Vale. It is dramatic, beautiful and designed by none other than Seve Ballesteros. But it also has a reputation. Some (we suspect after a tough scorecard…) have jokingly called it 'Tvi Vale'. And yes – it has occasionally been a course that tested both patience and ball supplies.

But now things are happening – for real.

Heading into autumn 2025, Quinta do Vale is stepping up significantly. Improvements are already noticeable, and it feels as though the entire facility is getting a new lease of life. And we like what we see!

Changes you'll notice straight away:

  • Tees have been moved forward on several holes – you no longer need to hit like Seve to have a really good round.
  • The rough around water hazards has been cleared – now you can see both the flag and the ball (and no, there's no crocodile – we promise!).
  • The rough is being thinned and tidied up – less ball hunting, more golf enjoyment.
  • Smart irrigation using greywater from Vila Real de Santo António – a sustainable step that keeps the grass both greener and kinder.
  • Grass quality is improving continuously – for a more even and fairer playing experience.

And that's not all…

On the slope opposite the clubhouse, a brand new 9-hole Academy Course is taking shape – some holes are already playable, and it looks both fun and challenging. Perfect for beginners, practice or a quick afternoon round after lunch on the terrace.

We're already looking forward to seeing what our guests think when they meet the 'new Vale' this autumn – and we dare to guess that even the most sceptical will need to update their nickname…

Facts about Quinta do Vale Golf

Location: Castro Marim, eastern Algarve, on the border with Spain | Opened: October 2008 | Architect: Severiano Ballesteros | Par: 72 | Length: 6,216 metres from the back tees | Holes: 18-hole park/seaside course plus 9 holes under development (Academy Course) | Signature: Spectacular water hazards and views over the Guadiana River | Difficulty: Technically challenging, particularly from the longer tees | Suits: Mid-handicap golfers seeking variety and beautiful nature – but also low-handicappers who enjoy strategic play.

Designed by Severiano Ballesteros – a course as charismatic as the master himself.

Quinta do Vale's 18-hole course is a masterpiece of natural harmony and sporting challenge. Seamlessly woven into valleys and slopes, it offers a rewarding round for golfers of all levels. The front nine winds through tranquil lagoons and demands both precision and strategy, whilst the back nine rises and opens up to sweeping views over the Guadiana River and the bridge to Spain. Generous fairways and clever doglegs reflect Ballesteros' vision of golf as both art and adventure.
